About IPv6 Expand & Compress
This IPv6 tool converts between the full (expanded) and shortened (compressed) forms of an IPv6 address. Expansion is handy when a system needs the complete 8-group form, while compression gives you the clean, human-friendly notation used in most configs.
It validates the address and runs entirely in your browser, so conversions are instant and private.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does expanding an IPv6 address mean?
Expanding restores the full, uncompressed form โ all eight groups of four hex digits with no :: shorthand and no dropped leading zeros, e.g. 2001:db8::1 becomes 2001:0db8:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0001.
What does compressing do?
Compressing produces the shortest valid form by removing leading zeros in each group and replacing the longest run of all-zero groups with ::.
Will it validate my address?
Yes. If the address isn't valid IPv6, the tool tells you instead of producing a wrong result.
Is it private?
Yes. All processing happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
