This is Lesson 1 of our Amazon Connect Real-time Metrics quiz series. Real-time metrics are the wallboard of an Amazon Connect contact centre: they tell a supervisor, second by second, how many customers are waiting, how long the oldest one has been in the queue and what every agent is doing right now. This lesson checks that you can read the core queue and agent statuses correctly.
Ten questions with instant feedback, for supervisors, team leads, administrators and Amazon Connect interview candidates.

Key concepts: Amazon Connect Real-time Metrics
- Contacts in queue – the number of contacts waiting for an agent at this moment. It is the first number a supervisor looks at.
- Oldest contact in queue – how long the longest-waiting contact has been in the queue. It warns you about a bad customer experience before averages move.
- Agents available – agents logged in, in the Available status and not on a contact, ready to take the next one.
- Agents on contact – agents currently connected to a call, chat or task.
- Agents in After Contact Work (ACW) – agents who have finished the conversation and are wrapping up notes or dispositions before taking the next contact.
- Agents in error – agents whose softphone or browser failed to accept a contact, for example because of a microphone or network problem. They need help before they can take contacts again.
- Refresh and time window – real-time reports refresh automatically and reflect the current moment or a short rolling window, unlike historical reports which cover past intervals.
